InfoFlow Episode 8.066 – 1/3/2023

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
SAMMI: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Tuesday, January 3rd. Welcome back from winter break! I’m Sammi.
LEVI: And I’m Levi. Earlier in December, MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight discussed proposed budget plans for next school year. The proposed budget of $3.15 billion is an 8 percent increase over MCPS’ current budget. Money is planned to be invested in increasing dual-language programs, creating school bus tracking software, removing costs for AP and IB exams, and more.
SAMMI:  On December 20th, women were officially banned from higher education and universities in Afghanistan on account of their gender. The Taliban issued a statement saying the highest level of education women are now allowed to obtain is grade 6. While the decision was expected due to the conservative beliefs of the Taliban party, it still left many in Afghanistan distraught.
LEVI: Do you like writing poems or short stories? Do you draw, sculpt, take photos, or do anything else creative? Then submit your original work to Blair’s literary magazine, Silver Quill! You can send your submissions to the email below. [silverquillmag@gmail.com] This is a great opportunity to see your work get published!
SAMMI: Levi and I are the Co-Executive Producers of BNC staff and we’re so excited that applications are open for next school year! We encourage all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who are interested in being involved in InfoFlow, documentary making, or podcasts to apply.
