InfoFlow Episode 8.054 – 12/02/22

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
SUSAE: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is December 2nd. I’m SUSAE.
BINTOU: And I’m BINTOU. On Tuesday the senate passed bipartisan legislation to protect same-sex marriages. The bill would ensure that same-sex and interracial marriages are enshrined in federal law and was approved 61-36. The legislation now moves to the House for a final vote, likely occurring next week.
SUSAE: It is now illegal for civilians to possess a firearm in or near public places in Montgomery County, Maryland. This includes schools, parks, libraries, healthcare facilities, and places of worship. The regulation was passed by the The Montgomery County Council unanimously.
BINTOU: Railroad workers across the country have said that they will go on strike if their needs aren’t met. Their main complaints are the grueling, unpredictable schedules that take a toll on their personal lives and their health. A railroad strike would have a serious impact on the United States economy. Congress is currently working to pass a bill to meet the conditions of the workers.
SUSAE: The 100th national tree lighting ceremony took place on wednesday at the Ellipse in Washington DC. The ceremony featured performances from the US Marine Band, Shania Twain, LL Cool J, Andy Grammer, Yolanda Adams, and more. The tree is now lit up and ready for the holiday season.
BINTOU: Auditions for Sankofa, the annual Black History Month show, are starting. Check out this teaser to see if you’re interested in being involved.
