NAHOM: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Thursday, October 27. I’m NAHOM.
MORGAN: And I’m MORGAN. Takoma Park households with an income of less than $50,000 are now eligible to apply for a one time payment of up to $1,000 cash. The city and its contractor, Forward, are working together to distribute the funds it received from the American Rescue Plan Act.
NAHOM: A Russian court has upheld American WNBA star Brittney Griner’s prison sentence for drug possession. Griner was found with vapes in her suitcase in February of this year as she was returning to the US. In August, she was sentenced to nine years in prison.
MORGAN: Rishi Sunak officially became the third British prime minister of the year on Tuesday. Sunak is the first British prime minister of color, and the youngest prime minster in over 200 years at 42 years old. He aims to work towards stabilizing the British economy as it faces high inflation.

NAHOM: SGA is holding a Digital Detox challenge! It will consist of watching The Social Dilemma over 2 lunches, followed by a week-long challenge of no personal screen usage. The activities will begin on Monday, October 31st and end on Friday, November 11th. You will be able to earn up to 15 SSL hours. If you are interested, head to the SGA instagram @mbhssga and fill out the sign-up form in their bio!
MORGAN: Now let’s hear from Cheer about their upcoming competition!
SINHAWE: Hi, I’m Sinhawe!
SIENA: I’m Siena!
RACHAEL: And I’m Rachael. We are your varsity cheer captains!
SINHAWE: We have our cheer competition, right here at Blair in the main gym, this Saturday, October 30th.
SIENA: The competition starts at 10, so be sure to be here by then to see us compete!
RACHAEL: Tickets are $5 and you can get them from a cheerleader or from the main office.
SINHAWE: Look out for cheerleaders in the hallway participating in our cheer spirit week!
SIENA: Remember to wear your red blazer gear on Saturday to cheer us on!
RACHAEL: Make sure to show up and be loud because we can win the spirit award for our division if we have the best student section! We can’t wait to see you there!
