| HABIB: And I’m HABIB. For today’s Hispanic Heritage fact, Mario Molina was a Mexican chemist who played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole. For his work on climate science, he became the first Mexican-born scientist to receive the Nobel Prize in chemistry. |
| NOLAN: Last week, MCPS held a tasting session for several new plant-based meal options that the county is considering to add for school lunches. The recipes were created by Ype Von Hengst, the founder and executive chef of the Silver Diner chain and the 2017 winner of Food Network’s “Chopped” contest. Some of the meals that were at the tasting session included sweet potatoes with ranch sauce, Thai red curry sauce over edamame and chickpeas with whole-grain rice, and white bean and pesto dip with roasted tomatoes on a flat bread. |
| HABIB: Sacheen Littlefeather, the Native American actress, died earlier on Sunday, October 2nd. She was best known for a speech she gave at the Oscars in 1973, where she attended in Marlon Brando’s place to reject his award for lead actor in “The Godfather”. She publicly condemned the unfair treatment of Native Americans in Hollywood despite negative and even violent reactions from the audience. The Oscars only officially apologized to Ms. Littlefeather this summer, 49 years after the event. |
