InfoFlow Episode 8.009 – 9/15/22

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
SUSAE: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Thursday, September 15th, and the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I’m SUSAE
PAIGE: And I’m PAIGE. For today’s Hispanic Heritage fact, do you know why Hispanic Heritage Month begins in the middle of September? September 15th was chosen to begin the month because it is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico’s independence day is on September 16th, and Chile’s is on the 18th.
SUSAE: The Montgomery County Planning Board gave approval for a proposed project at Silver Spring International Middle School. The project would include demolishing an abandoned auditorium that is not connected to the school, and building a new indoor gymnasium and locker rooms, connected to the school. Currently, the gym and locker rooms are located in a separate building, which is located downhill and causes accessibility problems.
PAIGE: The 2022 Emmy Awards were presented on Monday, with Zendaya making history by winning Best Actress in a Drama for her role in Euphoria. This makes her the first black woman to win Best Actress in a drama series twice, and the youngest two time acting winner. Sheryl Lee Ralph also won outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her role in Abbott Elementary, which makes her the second black actress to win the award.
SUSAE: What’s that color on the wall? And why does it look so good? Let’s learn about another coolest part of our school!
CPAB Murals
SUSAE: Stay updated for the latest coolest place at blair!
PAIGE: Homecoming is fast approaching, which means hallway decoration planning will start soon! SGA is really excited to bring back the tradition of hallway decorating after not being able to do it the past couple years. SSL hours will be given for your participation. If you’re interested, come to room 168 at the beginning of lunch this Thursday, the 15th. There will also be more information on the SGA instagram @mbhssga. They hope you get involved!
SUSAE: Applications for National Honor Society are now open for Juniors and Seniors. If you are a Junior or Senior and have shown exceptional scholarship, character, leadership and service, apply using the QR code. Applications are due by September 27th. If you have any questions come to the optional informational meeting on September 16th in Portable 4 or email Ms. Coleman at hannah.c.mcilvried2@mcpsmd.net
PAIGE: Students, this is a reminder to make sure you have a pass when you are in the hallway during class times. If you need assistance, please ask for help from a staff member. Everyone contributes to a safe environment at Blair, so starting this month you will see a larger presence of adults waiting to help you in the hallway during class times. All teachers take attendance so get to class on time. Blazers, remember, stay connected: be present, be prepared, and be engaged.
SUSAE: And that’s all for today’s show! Check out our website at bnconline.net to submit any announcements, and follow us @bnc_blair on instagram, and @bncblair on tiktok and on twitter. Have a thoughtful Thursday and we’ll see you next time, Blazers!
