InfoFlow Episode 7.140 – 4/29/22

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
MICHAEL: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Friday, April 29th. I’m MICHAEL
CELESTE: And I’m CELESTE. MCPS will stop COVID-19 contact tracing starting May 5. In the message sent out, the district wrote that it will no longer identify or individually notify individuals who are in close contact with someone who tests positive for the virus; they will instead send out messages at the classroom, grade, or school level to appropriately inform the community of positive cases. The change aligns with guidance from the CDC and the Maryland Department of Health.
MICHAEL: What is it? A Horticulture Plant Sale! When? It is Thursday, May 5th and Friday, May 6th during lunch and after school. The plant sale will be on the greenhouse patio (near room 210) during lunch, and the  Colesville parking lot after school until 3:30 pm for the community. Come support the hard work of the Horticulture students, Grab a gift for Mother’s Day, or start your own veggie Garden! They have flowers, native plants, veggies and herbs! Prices range from $1-7 and it is cash only.
CELESTE: This week is Holocaust Remembrance Week, and Blair is having a series of events dedicated to learning about the Holocaust, the legacy of genocide, and Antisemitism. An exhibit entitled “Early Warning Signs-1938” about the rise of Nazism in pre-war Germany will be available for students to experience in the Media Center for the rest of the week. Today, “The Book Thief” will be shown in the Media Center and during lunch, students are invited to write letters to Maryland Representatives and Senators on a day of action. The letter-writing campaign will occur in Blair Blvd opposite the Media Center, in front of the staff courtyard.
MICHAEL: Now, let’s hear from some members of Blair’s E-Sports club!
BRIAN: Hey everyone! I can almost guarantee a lot of you guys play video games. We do too! One problem that people have is that they don’t have lots of people to play video games with. ANDREW: Don’t worry, because we’ve got a solution! Join the Blair ESports Club. We meet in Room 101 on Tuesdays and Fridays. Join the https://discord.gg/TENExhVdBE. We look forward to playing with you!
MICHAEL: Thanks guys! Make sure to check out that discord or go to a club meeting if you’re interested.
CELESTE: April is Deaf History Month, and a time to recognize the many contributions of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.  The American Sign Language Honor Society, made possible by the Level 3 ASL class here at Blair now presents a fun Deaf history fact to share.
