[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
HABIB: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Monday, March 14th. Happy Pi Day! I’m HABIB
GABE: And I’m GABE. Today’s Women’s history month fact is about Ibtihaj Muhammad. Muhammad is a sabre fencer and was the first muslim women to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in 2016 winning bronze. In 2014 she and her siblings launched their own line of modest clothing. She is also a sports ambassador with the U.S. Department of State’s Empowering women and girls through sport initiative.
HABIB: At Walt Whitman High school, the Vike-A-Thon, a charity dance typically held as part of the SGA’s charity month effort, was cancelled due to allegations of bullying, harrasment, and inappropratie behavior of a sexual nature. This comes after an article published by the school newspaper about allegations against students during past dances reached the principal, who worked with the SGA and administrators to decide that it would be inappropriate to hold the dance.
GABE: Families and residents displaced by the explosion at the Friendly Garden apartments have received more than $70,000 from a collection fund set up by the Montgomery Housing Partnership. The cause of the explosion was a cut gas pipe that created a flash fire in an apartment above and led to the explosion spreading the fire.
HABIB: The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control is developing a plan to loosen nationwide mask mandates on airplanes, buses, and other forms of mass transit. The current mandate was set to end on March 18th, but is being extended until April 18th to give the CDC time to develop more targeted policies.
