SAMMI: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Friday, February 25th. As we’re wrapping up our celebratory spirit week here at BNC everyone is repping our merch and colors. We’d like to commend all our staffers on their hard work so far this year. I’m SAMMI.
LEVI: And I’m LEVI. Keep up the great work BNC Blazers! Today’s Black History Month fact is about Alpha Kappa Alpha, the oldest Black women’s greek organization founded on January 15th 1908 at Howard university. Their mission has five tenants including cultivating and encouraging high scholastic, promoting unity and friendships among college women, studying and alleviating the problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, and to be of service to all of mankind.  
SAMMI: The Maryland Board of Education has voted to lift the mask mandate for schools. If this move is approved by a legislative committee, it would mean that all school systems would now individually have the abilities to lift their mask mandates. As of right now, the mask mandate for MCPS is still in effect, so make sure to mask up blazers!
LEVI: Russia launched a wave of attacks on Ukraine early Thursday morning, bombarding cities, towns, and villages, while advancing towards Kyiv. Foreigners and citizens are fleeing Kyiv and other cities as reports of casualties are rising. Ukrainian forces are trying to stem the onslaught of Russian forces on the ground and in the air.

KARIS:This week in Black history is brought to you by the Black student UnionIn 1864 – Rebecca Lee became the first black woman to receive an M.D. degree…WHILE THE CIVIL WAR WAS OCCURING.  OH MY GOD.In 1869 the Fifteenth Amendment guaranteeing the right to vote was sent to the states for ratification.With all those new voters, Hiram R. Revels of Mississippi was sworn in as the first black U.S.Senator and first black Representative in Congress in 1870A major moment in history occurred in 1948 when  Martin Luther King was ordained as a Baptist minister.On Feb. 26, 1926 – Carter G. Woodson started Negro History Week. This week would laterbecome Black History Month.Later, in 1979 – Frank E. Peterson Jr. named the first black general in the Marine CorpsIn the musical realm of hip hop, Biz Markie released his debut album Goin’ Off. In 1988, He went on to have major success as a rapper and DJ, and became an icon in the hip hop universe. Also this same week Jay-Z released the single “Dead Presidents”. In 1996, that single launched a career that has led to Sean Carter becoming a billionaire, philanthropist, fashion and music mogul and arguably the greatest rapper of all time. The Black Student Union would like to remind everyone to come to the BLACK OUT poetry slam today at lunch in the sack. The BSU meets on Tuesdays in room 144 from 2:45- 4:00 and wants to invite all Blair students regardless of race or religion to come and discuss matters of importance to Black students and Blair students. Drinks and snacks will be provided. MIREYA: Hey, Blazers! This weekend it will still be a little chilly so don’t put your winter coats away just yet! This morning we have some rain and fog which will turn to strong winds through this evening. The high today will reach 53 degrees and the low will be 28. Tomorrow, it will be partly sunny with a high around 41 and a low of 31 degrees. Finally, on Sunday it will be sunny with a high near 51 and a low around 25 degrees.
