GWEN: Welcome back, Blazers, today is Pajama Spirit day, Monday, October 4th. I’m GWEN.
GENEVA: And I’m GENEVA. An MCPS employee filed a federal lawsuit over a COVID-19 vaccination mandate, saying that the mandate violates his religious freedoms. The protocols requiring a vaccination mandate, with the only exemptions allowed being for medical reasons, were put into place earlier this month. The employee asked a federal judge to impose a preliminary injunction against MCPS, which would prohibit the county from enforcing the mandate.
GWEN: Australia has said that they plan to drop some restrictions on international travel starting in November. Fully vaccinated Austrailians will be able to travel internationally once the country immunizes 80% of the population that is eligible to be vaccinated, while unvaccinated Australians will have to wait.
GENEVA: American University, located in Washington D.C was awarded a $15 million dollar grant along with researchers from 14 other institutions. The grant will be dedicated to finding a solution for food waste, and American University will now lead the first academic research network on wasted food. Other universities are also trying to contribute to meeting sustainability goals for the country by diverting uneaten food from landfills and banning single use plastics.
GWEN: The lawsuit between Scarlett Johasson and Disney has been settled, after Johansson sued the media company because Black Widow was released in theaters and on Disney+ simultaneously. This allegedly violated her contract and limited ticket sales in theaters. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, however both Johansson and Disney have alluded to future collaborations.
GENEVA: The Spanish Honor Society is accepting Applications for the 2021-2022 school year.  If you are a high-achieving student in the Spanish program and at least a junior, please obtain an Application form in Room 170 and turn it into Señora Araujo by the deadline of October 15. The SHS is looking forward to welcoming you.
GWEN: All 10th graders interested in going to college after High School should join the ACES program. You can work with an ACES Coach in 11th and 12th grade to receive personal assistance with college applications, financial aid forms, access to leadership development programs, and career-readiness training! GENEVA: The Blair Society for Minorities in STEM is having their first meeting Wednesday, October 6th, 2021 in room 323! This society aims to uplift the voices of students from diverse backgrounds and inspire them in the field of STEM.
