Infoflow 7.007 – 9/15/21

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
YASMEEN: Good Morning, Blazers, today is Tuesday, September 14th. Welcome to Infoflow, I’m YASMEEN.
SKYE: and I’m SKYE. The Maryland Department of Health is planning to distribute between 50,000 to 250,00 dollars to community based organizations to provide vaccine education and outreach to communities with low vaccination rates.
YASMEEN: Last Thursday, the Department of Justice sued Texas over their new restrictive aborton law. The Department of Justice argued that the new law was unconstitutional because it goes against the Roe V. Wade precedent. This decision sparked controversy amongst some people in Texas, but others were glad the DOJ finally stepped in.
SKYE: D.C.’s Humane Rescue Alliance is running a “Clear the Shelters” pet adoption drive. As part of the effort, the Alliance has waived adoption fees in order to get as many pets into new homes as possible. The drive began on August 23rd, and will continue until September 19th.
YASMEEN: In sports news, Daniil Medvedev upset Novak Djokovic to win the men’s tennis singles title at the US open. With this victory, Medvedev shut down Djokovic’s chance to become the first man to ever win all 4 majors- the US open, the French open, Wimbledon, and the Australian open- in the same year, and prevented him from obtaining the all-time record for most Grand slam titles won. Djokovic is currently tied at 20 titles with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. This is Medvedev’s first career Grand Slam singles title.
