Skye: Good Afternoon, Blazers, and welcome back to Infoflow from home! Today is Friday, June 4th. I’m Skye.

ALISON: And I’m ALISON. In local news, Montgomery County surpassed 70,921 cases of COVID-19 as of June 1st. According to the Maryland department of health, just over 51% of county residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 61% have received at least one dose.

SAM: In Statewide vaccine news, Governor Hogan announced Monday that 70% of Maryland adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Maryland is the 12th state to reach this marker. President Biden has set a goal for 70% of all adults nationwide to be vaccinated by July 4th.

ALISON: Currently in Texas, republican lawmakers are trying to pass a new voting bill in response to Donald Trump’s lies about voting fraud. On Monday, democrats walked out of the house, breaking quorum and letting time run out on the midnight deadline for voting. Texas Governor Greg Abbot threatened just hours later that he would  veto the section of the state budget that funds their paychecks stating “no pay for those who abandon their responsibilities.”

ALISON: In Montgomery County, students have renewed their efforts to install at least two bottle filling stations in each school building. Student activists argue that it would increase efficiency, create a safer environment and save the school board money in the long run.

SAM: Last friday in St. Johns river, Jacksonville, 7 year old Chase saved his 4 year old sister and father from being swept away from river currents. His sister lost her grip on their boat due to the strong currents and Chase heroically let go as well in an attempt to stop her from being pulled away. He too was stuck and after his father jumped in to help and stayed with his daughter, Chase swam against the currents for an hour to get help.

ALISON: SSL forms for hours earned during the 2020-2021 school year are due today.  SSL hours will be updated in StudentVue by June 18th. ALISON: En el condado de Montgomery, los estudiantes han renovado sus esfuerzos para instalar al menos dos estaciones de llenado de botellas en cada edificio escolar. Los estudiantes activistas argumentan que aumentaría la eficiencia, crearía un entorno más seguro y ahorraría dinero a la junta escolar a largo plazo.
SAM: El viernes pasado en el río St. Johns, Jacksonville, Chase de 7 años salvó a su padre y hermana de 4 años de ser arrastrados por las corrientes del río. Su hermana perdió su agarre en su bote debido a las fuertes corrientes y Chase la soltó heroicamente también en un intento por evitar que se la llevara. Él también estaba atascado y después de que su padre se unió para ayudar y se quedó con su hija, Chase nadó contra las corrientes durante una hora para buscar ayuda.
