ESHAN: Good Afternoon, Blazers, and welcome back to Infoflow from home! Today is Thursday, April 18th. I’m ESHAN.
ALISON: And I’m ALISON. In local news, Montgomery County has surpassed 68,865 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, April 20th. According to the Maryland department of health, just over 28% of Montgomery County’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 46% have received at least the first dose.
ESHAN: In national news, the nation is on edge entering the second day of jury deliberations in the trial of Derek Chauvin. The jury deliberated for four hours on Monday and was sequestered in a hotel for the night. As the country anxiously awaits the verdict, President Biden called Philonese Floyd to offer emotional support and his condolences for the loss of his brother.
ALISON: In more national news, former vice-president Walter Mondale died on monday, at age 93. Mondale also served as the attorney general of Minnesota, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, and as a Minnesota senator. Former president Jimmy Carter said monday that he considered Mondale “the best vice president in our country’s history.” and that “Fritz Mondale provided us all with a model for public service and private behavior.”

ALISON: As of Monday, all Montgomery county schools have begun the last reopening phase. Approximately, 60,000 students have returned to in-person learning, this marks the first time in over a year that all grades are back in the buildings.
ESHAN: In more Montgomery County news, the school board is currently looking into the restrictions and procedures needed to have an in-person graduation. As of now, nothing is confirmed, but we’ll keep you updated.
