VIVIAN: Good Afternoon, Blazers, and welcome back to Infoflow from home! Today is Thursday, February 19th. I’m VIVIAN
AMINA: And I’m AMINA. In local news, Montgomery County has surpassed 61,744 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, February 16th.
VIVIAN: As MCPS prepares to return to in-person learning, the Montgomery County teacher’s union has agreed upon a “tentative” outline for their demands before returning.These include but are not limited to improvements in the ventilation system and “Unusual and Imperative leave” with pay in case of a COVID-19 emergency. The proposed plan has not been confirmed and has yet to undergo review.
AMINA: In National news, a deadly winter storm is sweeping the United States, leaving 4 dead and 150 million under winter advisories. The storm has reached 25 states, breaking hundreds of daily low-temperature records and even breaking a few all-time low temperature records. Rolling blackouts are being implemented in some states to reduce demand for electricity as temperatures drop.
VIVIAN: Amid seemingly incessant bad news, it's a relief to hear about some of the positive things that people are doing. Hunter Walterman has a story about one Blair student who's been making a positive impact in their community.

VIVIAN: James Baldwin was an American novelist and civil rights icon that explored racial and social issues through his groundbreaking writing. He was born August 2, 1924 and died December 1, 1987. During his lifetime, he authored an estimated 8 books that received national attention for their poignant stance on social issues.

AMINA: Y yo soy AMINA. En noticias locales, el condado de Montgomery ha superado los 61,744 casos de COVID-19 hasta el martes 16 de febrero.
VIVIAN: Mientras MCPS se prepara para regresar al aprendizaje en persona, el sindicato de maestros del condado de Montgomery ha acordado un esquema “tentativo” para sus demandas antes de regresar.
