MCKINLEY: And I’m Mckinley. For our last Hispanic Heritage Month Fact, Antonia Novello is a Puerto Rican physician and public health administrator. She was the first women and first Hispanic United States Surgeon General and led several major health campaigns to improve access to health care, especially for women, children, and minority populations. |
MEKIDES: On Tuesday, Adnan Syed, the man initially charged for the killing of Hae Min Lee back in 1999, was formally exonerated for her death. The case rose to international fame after it was featured on the true crime podcast “Serial” in 2014. After spending two decades in prison, DNA testing proved Mr. Syed’s innocence, leading Baltimore prosecutors to release him and place him on home detention with GPS location monitoring. A reinvestigation of the case has also revealed evidence regarding two other possible suspects as the killers of Ms. Lee. |

MEKIDES: National Honor Society is holding a costume drive from October 17th to the 21st for Horton’s Kids. Horton’s Kids is a DC-based organization that serves under-resourced communities. If you have a costume to drop off, please leave it in Portable 4, on the football field side. Costumes must be newly purchased and may not include any types of weapon. For more information about the drive or what costumes are accepted, look for flyers around the school for more information. |
