| MEKIDES: And I’m MEKIDES. For today’s Hispanic Heritage fact, Sylvia Mendez is an American civil rights activist of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage. At only 8 years old, she played an instrumental role in the Mendez v. Westminster case, the case that desegregated schools in california in 1946. In 2011, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama. |
| MCKINLEY: The Chicago marathon took place on Sunday,and more than 40,000 runners competed in the 26.2-mile event. Kenyan runners Benson Kipruto and Ruth Chepngetich won the Marathon, while Emily Sisson finished second and set a record for American women. |
| MEKIDES: Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has said he wants to be “in position” for a potential 2024 presidential run. Despite high favorability ratings among voters at 73%, he would be projected to get only 35% of the vote if he ran against Trump. |
