InfoFlow Episode 7.121 – 3/25/22
[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance] |
Emmanuel: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Friday, March 25th. I’m Emmanuel. |
ANNIE: And I’m Annie. Today’s Women’s history month fact is that Claudette Colvin, at only 15 years old, was the first documented black woman to refuse to give up her seat on a bus for a white person. This was 9 months before Rosa Parks did the same. While Parks’ contributions to the Civil Rights Movement are undeniable, Colvin was not widely recognized for her act. She was arrested on March 2, 1955, riding the same bus system as Rosa Parks. |
Emmanuel: Maryland is donating 50 ventilators that were required because of the pandemic to Ukraine. Hospitals within Ukraine are reporting that they have enough PPE but are in need of equipment and medicine. |
ANNIE: The US secretary of State has declared the repression of the Ryhinga population in Myanmar a genocide. This is the eighth time since The Holocaust that the US has declared a genocide and opens the door for stronger sanctions and pressure. Since 2017 over 700,000 Ryhinga have fled the region. |
Emmanuel: The We The East Club is practicing their dance for International Night coming up next week. They’re looking for anyone interested in joining them and encourage you to attend their meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Dance room, located in the Gym hallway. |
ANNIE: Happy Music in Schools Month! Here’s today’s fact: Kristen Anderson-Lopez is an award winning songwriter & lyricist who co-wrote music from Frozen, Coco, & WandaVision. Have you ever tried writing a song before? You can learn the basics of songwriting by signing up for Music Technology or AP Music Theory at Blair! See Ms. Roberts or Ms. H-C with any questions. |
