| CELESTE: And I’m CELESTE Standing in today for Geo. Today’s Women’s history month fact is that Women were not allowed to compete in track and field events at the Olympics until 1928. The ancient Greeks and Romans may have let women run in foot races in the Heraean Games, but when it came to the Olympics, both ancient and modern, these events were off limits to women until 1928. Unfortunately, some of the events were too much for the untrained female athletes, and because many collapsed after the end of the 800-meter race, it was banned until 1960. |
| ANNIE: Kevin Willard has been named the new head coach of the University of Maryland’s men basketball. He is succeeding Mark Tuergon who was the team’s coach for over a decade and stepped down last year. Willard previously was the coach for Seton Hall and had been named conference coach of the year. |
| CELESTE: The DC Metro’s current crop of late-model rail cars are still sidelined because of last fall’s derailment. But plans for the next fleet of rail cars are already underway, and they will be manufactured in Maryland. Hitachi Rail said it will build a $70 million “state-of-the-art” factory in Washington County, Maryland, to build the 8000-series cars. |

| CELESTE: The Blair Society for Minorities in STEM or BSMS is a club that aims to uplift the voices of students from diverse backgrounds and inspire them in the field of STEM. They meet on Wednesdays during lunch in room 323 at 11:30. |
| ANNIE: The We The East Club is practicing their dance for International Night COming up next week. They’re looking for anyone interested in pinging them and encourage you to attend their meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Dance room in the Gym hallway. |
