InfoFlow Episode 7.003 – 9/9/21
[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance] |
NOLAN: Good Morning, Blazers, today is Thursday, September 9th. Welcome to Infoflow, I’m NOLAN. |
MIRYEA: and I’m MIREYA. As covid cases continue to spike in Montgomery County, County executive Marc Elrich has proposed a vaccine passport program. The proposed program would require citizens to show proof of vaccination before entering businesses or participating in high risk activities. Elrich believes this will lower cases by making it “more difficult for the unvaccinated to come in contact with people who are vaccinated”. |
NOLAN: Residents in Louisiana are expected to go without power for weeks as crews repair the damage Ida has caused to the power grid. The storm destroyed over 20,000 electricity poles and 5,000 transformers. Five parishes are not expected to have power until the end of the month. |
MIREYA: Following the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition filing a lawsuit against the Montgomery county housing commission, a judge has ruled to stop the $51 million dollar sale of land that includes a historic African American cemetery. According to the suit, part of The Moses Macedonia Cemetery was built over in the 1960s as a parking lot after the land was bought in the 1950. Many of those buried at the cemetery were freed slaves. |
NOLAN: Last week, the Montgomery County redistricting Committee, tasked with dividing the county into seven districts, met in order to begin planning the drawing of new maps. They expect to have final US Census data assembled by Monday, and hope to be able to present early map drafts by september 23rd. |
MIREYA: On Tuesday, El Salvador became the first country to accept bitcoin as legal tender. The cryptocurrency will join the dollar, which has been in use since 2001, in a move pitched by President Nayib Bukele as a way to get more Salvadorians, many of whom don’t have bank accounts, into the formal economy. While the international Bitcoin community is celebrating the decision, many Salvadorans view it with confusion and distrust, as many are uncertain how it will play out. |
NOLAN: And now let’s take a look at Blair’s first football game of the year. |
