InfoFlow Episode 7.103 – 2/28/22

[Infoflow intro] + [pledge of allegiance]
MARISA: Welcome back to Infoflow, Blazers. Today is Monday, February 28th. I’m MARISA.
MIREYA: And I’m MIREYA. Today’s the last day of Black History Month. This year’s theme was Black health and wellness. We know that next year’s theme will be “Anti-Black violence and resistance in the diaspora”.
MARISA: Health officials say that the new omicron strain of COVID-19 has been detected in the D.C. region, but preliminary data is showing that a new wave of serious infections is unlikely. The BA.2 strain is thought to be more transmissible, but causes lighter symptoms than the original omicron variant, especially if reinfected.
MIREYA: February 23rd has been recognized as Ahmaud Aubrey Day in the state of Georgia. In honor of Aubrey people are encouraged to run 2.23 miles annually for racial equality.
MARISA: Montgomery County students told leaders and school officials that more mental health support and resources are needed for students in public schools. This past Wednesday, a zoom session was hosted by councilmember Tom Hucker, to give students the opportunity to speak out about mental health.
MIREYA: In response to the amount of unexpected school closures this year MCPS has decided to make april 1st a half day for students and to add on two additional full days to the school year.
MARISA: Let’s go to Declan who covered the girls’ big win against Wheaton
