NOLAN: Good Morning, Blazers, today is Friday, September 10th.. Welcome to the show, I’m NOLAN.

NOLAN: A Maryland based vaccine company, Novavax, now believes they may have created a vaccine that defends against both influenza and covid-19. They have begun testing at 12 different locations, giving the shot to those who have previously been infected by the virus and those who are already fully vaccinated. The Novavax covid 19 vaccine, has already proven to be 90% effective. The hope is that this combination shot would make getting vaccinated much more efficient.
MIREYA: Yesterday, Virginia removed its Richmond statue of Robert E. Lee, the confederate general. The decision to take down this symbol of racism was made by Governor Ralph Northam, 10 days after the death of George Floyd as a gesture of progress. Unfortunately, due to numerous legal battles with Virginia residents delaying the process by over a year, the moment finally came to fruition on Wednesday. Northam had the event livestreamed as he correctly anticipated a crowd and said, “this is an important step in showing who we are and what we value as a commonwealth.”
NOLAN: Join the Bethesda Urban Partnership for live music every Friday night from 6pm to 8pm through September 24. The concerts will take place at the corner of Cordell and Norfolk Avenues within the Bethesda Streetery. Up tonight is Jay Byrd and the Music Collective, so go check them out, just know that tables and chairs are available at the Bethesda Streetery on a first come, first served basis.
MIREYA:  On wednesday, the biden administration released their plans for transitioning to solar power. The analysis from the department of energy maps out how we can raise our electricity generated by solar panels to 45% over the next three decades. Biden believes his new solar energy plan will help achieve his goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. 
NOLAN:: The Kennedy center just celebrated 50 years of performances. The center opened in 1971, as a memorial to John F Kennedy, who advocated for performance arts. Located just out of downtown DC, it sits on the water and serves as a creative hub. To celebrate, they are offering free dance performances, live music, and yoga starting today. There is also a free exhibit in the building, celebrating the center over the last 50 years. 
MIREYA: The College & Career Center will be hosting Senior Q&A Lunch Sessions every Monday for the month of September. Ms. Salazar will be available to help Seniors with their college applications, and to answer any questions about the college application process. Stop by room 121.
