SODA: And I’m Soda. The weather for today will be partly cloudy with a low of 29 and a high of 49.
SEBASTIEN: Today in black history, in 1964 trumpeter, composer, and singer Louis Armstrong’s recording of the song, “Hello Dolly” rose to number one on the charts. It would be Armstrong’s first and only number one record.
SODA:  Interested in trying out for volleyball this spring season? This is for both Boys and Coed Volleyball! There will be an informational meeting tomorrow, Thursday, February 16th in Mr. Shiotani’s, room 233 after 9th period at 3:30! All are welcome to come. If you are interested and unable to attend, please feel free to email Kanani Jiang at jiang.kanani4321@gmail.com or in the Silver Chips, room 165 during 5th lunch.
SEBASTIEN: There will be an interest meeting for Outdoor Track today at 2:45 p.m and at 3:30 p.m in room 235. Please come if you’re interesting in running in the spring!
SODA: Have you ever wanted to be a journalist? Have you ever wondered what is is like to be a judge? Do you want to talk and connect with professionals in a variety of interesting fields? Come to the Career Connections Club on Wednesdays during both lunches in the Career Center. Meetings will be every other week starting today 15th. Everyone is welcome! SEBASTIEN: Sorry Blazers there were complications within the congress dates. Congress will not be this week, it will be on February the twenty-second from three o’clock through four o’clock in the media center. Sorry Blazers for the confusion and hope to see you guys at Congress.
SODA: Hey blazers! Junior class council will be selling valentine’s day baked goods after school on today near the main staircase. Come and buy some to support your class, surprise a special loved one, or satisfy your hunger with a delicious freshly baked treat!
SEBASTIEN: The next open mic will be this Friday, February 17th during both lunches in the media center. Sign up outside of room 141 and hope to see you there!
SODA: Hello world! Interested in learning how to code in a fun and supportive environment? Girls Who Code meets Tuesdays in room 328 at 2:30 and 3:20. The curriculum is taught by computer science graduate students from the University of Maryland, and all non-magnet girls who complete 10 sessions of the club this semester will be eligible to receive $100 vouchers. Email mbhsgirlswhocode@gmail.com if you’re interested in learning more!
SEBASTIEN: Young Democrats is holding an open discussion on healthcare, the Affordable Care Act, and the new implications of Trump’s proposed changes. The discussion is open to everyone from all backgrounds and beliefs! There will be experts on these topics coming in to speak, so come prepared with questions in mind and be ready to discuss these issues at hand. It will be held on February 22nd, from 3:30-4:30 in room 164.
SODA: Attention current Blair Crew team members and anyone who is interested in rowing this spring:
There will be a mandatory meeting tomorrow, Thursday, February 16, from 3:30-4:30 across the street at the Silver Spring United Methodist Church, in room 111. Again, this meeting is mandatory for all current rowers and anyone interested in learning to row this spring. See you there and Row Blair!
SEBASTIEN: Come to room 164 on Tuesdays at 3:30-4:30 for the MBHS Young Republicans’ Club. They’re looking to have open conversations about conservative ideology and current events. Whether you’re a conservative looking for a place to talk or a liberal looking to ask questions, we welcome you to come and discuss with us. Meetings are every Tuesday after 9th period in room 164
SODA: Envirothon teams will meet today, February 15th, after 9th period in room 325.  New members are welcome.  If you have any questions, contact Mr. Tran Pham in room 325 or 319.
SEBASTIEN Hey Blazers! If you are a member of Silver Chips Print, Silver Chips Online, BNC, Silverlogue, or Silver Quill, you are eligible to apply to the new Quill and Scroll International Journalism Honor Society. All staffers who have taken a year of either Creative Writing or Journalism are welcome to apply; this includes writers, editors, artists, photographers, videographers, and business staffers. As a member of Quill and Scroll you will be eligible to apply for awards and scholarships, as well as participate in journalism-related service activities. SODA: International Partners is accepting applications for the 2017 summer delegation to El Salvador from June 23 – July 9. Travel with other high school students from around the area to live with a host family in a rural village. While hearing amazing stories from another culture and helping out communities through building projects or teaching kids, you are guaranteed make lasting friendships, and learn or practice your Spanish! Anyone age 16 and up is eligible to participate. Apply by February 15 for best consideration, and after that applications are considered on a first come, first serve basis.
