IYANU: In the news, after a bad financial quarter, Macy’s has announced it will be closing 68 stores nationwide, cutting 10,000 jobs total. Other large retail stores are expected to announce store closings after a lackluster holiday season from the industry overall. |
| YUCHABEL: Attention students, the deadline to turn in first semester SSL hours is fast approaching! All hours earned from September through the end of December must be turned into Mrs. Hiscock in room 130 or the main office mailbox by Friday, January 6th. Please see Mrs. Hiscock with any questions and remember to turn in those forms! |
| IYANU: Do you love reading? Are you interesting in mentoring elementary school students? This spring Blair is mentoring students at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School and Sligo Creek Elementary School. If you can commit to one day a week after school for part of the spring semester, one of these programs may be a great fit for you! You will earn SSL hours and positively impact student lives in amazing ways. If you are interested come to the interest meeting next Tuesday, January 10, from 2:45 – 3:15 in the MC conference room. You can also see Mr. Clay or Mrs. Zarou for more information, or sign up in room 240. |
| YUCHABEL: Attention all Blazers planning on attending the Women’s March on Washington on January 21st! Blair Interracial Dialogue wants Blair students to show up together, as a united group of students for change. They’ll be hosting a sign-making party on Thursday, January 19th after school to prepare for the march together, and then meeting at the Takoma Park and Silver Spring metro stops the morning of the march and traveling to D.C. together. | IYANU: You are invited to earn SSL hours this Sunday at the Indoor Splash and Play Pool Party benefiting Let’s Play America, a local non-profit organization that runs community events to encourage people of all ages to play. The event is Sunday, January 8th at Piney Branch Elementary School. Students are welcome to volunteer for SSL hours between 1:30 and 4:30pm. You can come out and play while thinking of warmer weather to come! |
